Ponda taluka MLAs step back

Politicians from Ponda taluka though have refrained from openly campaigning for their supporters in the panchayat election, but some have secretly played their role.

Speaking to The Goan, Priol MLA Govind Gaude said people should not be forced to choose their candidate. “I was not involved in this election,” said Gaude.  
Former Priol MLA Deepak Dhavalikar said he has not supported anyone in this election. “My supporters are contesting the panchayat election, but I am not campaigning for anyone. Let them experience it,” Dhavalikar said.  
Marcaim MLA Sudin Dhavalikar said he didn’t interfere in the election as all are his supporters. “They all are my supporters, so I have not interfered,” he said.  
Pradeep Shet, BJP candidate who lost to Dhavalikar from Marcaim, said his supporters are contesting the election, but he has not supported anyone. “We have adopted a policy that the one who wins is ours,” he said.  
Ponda MLA and Congress leader Ravi Naik also said he has not interfered in the panchayat election. “In some places, more than one supporter is contesting the election, so it is better to refrain,” he said.  
However, former MGP MLA Lavu Mamledar said he has supported few of his supporters, but have not openly campaigned for them. “I have supported some of my supporters,” he said.  
Vishwanath Dalvi, BJP Ponda Block president, said they have supported their candidates and are campaigning for them. “Our leaders are not campaigning for them, but the Block is working,” he said.  
In Shiroda, Congress MLA Subhash Shirodkar has also refrained himself from campaigning for any of 
his supporters.
