At least two stretches on the highway “ from forest check post up to Carrasvaddo junction and Tivim church to old post office “ have been in very bad state.
Large potholes have developed on the stretch from the forest check post to Carrasvaddo junction making the road very dangerous for motorists. Further, four-wheelers passing on this stretch kick up dust making life miserable for two-wheeler riders.
The gram sabha members also demanded shifting of the electricity poles which has become hindrance to motorists.
After carrying out road widening work, some electricity poles where shifted by the power department while some were yet to be shifted.
Sarpanch, Shivdas Kambli assured the gram sabha to write to the Executive Engineer PWD (Roads) urging the department to initiate steps to repair the highway on top priority.
“We will also write to the power department to shift the electricity poles which poses risk to motorists,” the sarpanch said.
Raising the ubiquitous garbage mess, gram sabha members condemned the attitude of some people who refuse to follow proper decorum while disposing waste.
“The authorities have placed two dustbins by the side of the road in Maddel. But many people instead of placing their waste in these dustbins prefer to fling plastic bags scattering the waste all around the dust bins,” said Subhash Kauthankar.
He further said that on account of the spilling waste, cattle flock near the dustbins.
“Many times these cattle come on the road and could pose risk to motorists using the road,” he added.
Condemning the attitude of the public, Girish Mahale said it was sad that educated people were throwing garbage in the open. The sarpanch said the State government had contracted garbage collection along the highway.
“We will write to the agency to collect the garbage after every two days if not every alternate day,” the sarpanch said. Raising the issue of children’s park, Ramesh Volvoikar said the park was in shambles and needed urgent attention.
The sarpanch informed that the panchayat had already drawn an estimate to develop the park and work would begin soon. The secretary informed the gram sabha members that Mission Rabies campaign would take place in Tivim from October 24 to 27.

Non-functioning of high mast lamp near the ground and erection of mobile phone towers also came up for discussion at the gram sabha.
