Cavelossim-based fisherman, Roy Barretto on Thursday said the fishing communities will lose their traditional rights in the sea as well as in the rivers of Goa if Ports Limits are shown in the Coastal Zone Management Plans (CZMPs).
He said the government of Goa have bigger plans to sell Goa to corporates and displace the fishermen as State government was asked to prepare detail plans for long term housing needs of coastal communities in view of expansion of their families as per guidelines no. 7.
“First of all, the NCSCM had not followed the guidelines while preparing the CZMP. In fact, the CRZ notification 2011 is really good for coastal communities, but the State government has done nothing in implementing such law since 2011. CRZ Notification is a small branch of Environment protection Act 1986 and CZMP is a plan to show eco sensitive areas and to conserve and protect such areas and not to include Port limits, to destroy environment,” he added.
