Scare hit the residents of Madel in Fatorda after a portion of an internal road near a Chapel caved in late last night.
This is the second stretch of the internal road that has caved in the last fortnight, raising concerns amongst the local residents and motorists.
The incident occurred late last night even as the authorities are on the job to repair the stretch of the road at Madel near another Chapel that had caved in last month.
Locals attributed the problem to the shoddy work of road restoration carried out by the contractors after road digging activity. It has been pointed out that the contractors did not restore the excavated road with rubble stones, causing the filled up stretch to settle down.
In fact, locals have demanded that the PWD authorities inspect the entire stretch of the Madel internal road to avoid any casualty.
A local resident Milagres Fernandes cried foul over the situation, blaming the contractors for the shoddy work and demanded action.
“This is the second stretch of the internal road that has caved in after the road restoration work. This only goes to show that the contractor did not restore the road as per the laid down specification “, he said.
Demanding action against the erring contractors, Milagres further demanded that the authorities inspect the entire road which has been restored to avert any mishap.
