No issue if Nuvem among 4 to qualify for ST reservation, says Sequeira

Thanks CM for efforts and living up to promise made to ST community

MARGAO

Environment Minister Aleixo Sequeira, who represents Nuvem Constituency in the Goa Legislative Assembly, has said he has no issue if Nuvem qualifies for reservation for the Scheduled Tribe community.

He thanked Chief Minister Dr Pramod Sawant for living up to his promise made to the Scheduled Tribes population of Goa that he would make every effort to realise the long-pending demand of the community for political reservations. “I know the hard work put in by Chief Minister Pramod Sawant in Delhi. I had once accompanied the Chief Minister to the Union Tribal Welfare Minister where he made a strong pitch for political reservations for the scheduled tribes of Goa. Besides, I thank Prime Minister Narendra Modi, besides Home Minister Amit Shah for playing their due role in introducing and passing the Bill in the Lok Sabha”, Sequeira added.

When The Goan drew his attention to reports that Nuvem may be one of the four Assembly constituencies which may be reserved for the Scheduled tribes, Sequeira said he has no issue if Nuvem is reserved for the ST community. “For the moment, I do not know whether Nuvem will be one of the four Assembly constituencies that will be reserved for the Scheduled tribes. But, if Nuvem fits the bill in the reservation criteria, I have no issue”, Sequeira asserted.

The Nuvem Assembly constituency comprises of the villages of Betalbatim, Majorda, Nagoa, Verna, Nuvem and Loutolim, with the last four villages playing host to a significant ST population.
