VALPOI
Motorists travelling between Valpoi and Nagargao have raised serious safety and security concerns, after a portion of the road recently caved in near the new KTC bus stand.
Locals said the PWD had dug the road to lay a pipeline and alleged that on completion of the pipeline work, the road had not been properly repaired and restored to its original condition.
They claimed that the road has broken up due to the rains and said a number of mishaps had taken place in the past five days.
With the portion of the road having caved in near the KTC bus stand, many motorists and commuters travelling between Valpoi and Nagargao have raised fears of more mishaps in the area.
“We have been repeatedly demanding the repair of this portion of road which has caved in, but authorities have been least bothered to address our demands,” complained a resident.
A local journalist, Mahadev Joshi, said several requests had been made to authorities, but no action had been taken in the matter.
“There have been over 10 minor mishaps in the last 10 days and if the stretch of road is not repaired at the earliest, there could be a major
mishap.
Local councillor Anil Katkar squarely blamed PWD officials for the situation.
“It should have been the responsibility of the PWD officials to repair this road after laying the pipeline, but they are not serious about the matter,” said Katkar.
