Ports Minister calls for clearly defined ‘buffer zones’ around heritage sites

Ports Minister Michael Lobo on Wednesday underscored the need for a clear definition of a 'buffer zone' where no constructions can be permitted around all heritage monuments and sites in Goa.

In the absence of clearly defined 'buffer zones', the concerned departments would continue to issue construction licences when legitimate applications are received, and controversies such as the one playing out at Old Goa will continue to happen, Lobo said.

Lobo had dramatically set a 48-hour deadline for Chief Minister Pramod Sawant and his own government to revoke permissions granted to the controversial structure in Old Goa.
