Tourism Minister and Porvorim MLA Rohan Khaunte has said all open spaces in Porvorim constituency will be developed into quality spaces to prevent encroachments by people.
He was speaking at the Nana Nani Park in Porvorim during a programme organised by Penha de Franca panchayat to celebrate Vanamohotsav and to hand over saplings to people. Others present included Penha de Franca Sarpanch Swapnil Chodankar, ZP member Kavita Naik, panch members and locals.
Khaunte said work on the first phase of the Nana Nani Park has been completed.
“In the second phase, a ground plus one structure will be constructed at the Nana Nani Park. The ground floor will be reserved exclusively for senior citizens to conduct yoga, health camps, organise talks on health issues, set up physiotherapy centre, etc.,” said Khaunte.
“A badminton court will be provided for youth on the first floor and work on the second phase will start soon.”
Commenting on the importance of trees, the minister said a pollution-free Goa is only possible with public participation and to a large extent, by creating awareness among students.
He appealed to residents who collected the saplings to nurture them to full maturity.
Penha de Franca Sarpanch Swapnil Chodankar said the panchayat had organised Vanamohotsav to create awareness among the public about the importance of trees.
