The alleged accused Satish Shinde, arrested in connection with the August 28 shooting targeting Neo Majestic Casino director Srinivas Nayak, was on Tuesday remanded to nine days’ judicial custody by the JMFC court.
Shinde had earlier been remanded to five days’ police custody after his arrest at Mumbai airport, where he was allegedly intercepted while travelling to Dubai on business.
During the earlier hearing, his defence counsel Adv Vinayak Porob had questioned the legality of the arrest, citing a time gap between Shinde’s alleged apprehension and the formal recording of his arrest. The defence had also raised objections over his transfer from Mumbai to Goa and the communication of the grounds of arrest to his family.
The prosecution had sought police custody citing the alleged conspiracy behind the shooting and the need for further investigation.
Nayak was targeted by armed assailants at the casino on August 28 but escaped unhurt. Several suspects have been arrested in the ongoing Crime Branch probe into the alleged conspiracy.
