Power dept cuts off overhead internet, other cables at Patto

PANAJI
The Goa Electricity Department on Saturday took down all overhead internet and other service cables in the Patto area of the capital city on Saturday disrupting services there.

Electricity department officials said service providers were hanging wires on electricity poles with impunity with total disregard to the law and safety.

“We have provided underground ducts. They should follow the procedure and use them instead of illegally hanging their wires overhead on the department’s poles,” a senior engineer said, adding that none of these service providers have any permission from an appropriate authority.

The official also said repeated notices had been issued to these service providers to remove their cables and use the ducts specifically provided for the purpose.

The official also said these cables prove a safety hazard to linesmen working on faults and repairs of electricity installations.

The action of the department targeted the business district at the EDC Patto Plazza and is expected to be repeated in other areas of the city.
