Power officials and the foot soldiers worked tirelessly and non-stop since Monday night to restore power supply in Salcete countryside, managing to restore supply in most of the areas, while there are still areas which will have to wait till Wednesday for the power supply.
Senior power officials, including Power Secretary Kunal visited Salcete, including the Arlem area to take stock about the restoration work. The Power Secretary is believed to have instructed power officials to hire a back-up generator for an oxygen filling plant at Arlem to ensure non-stop filling of medical oxygen.
In some villages such as Nessai, Sao Jose de Areal, Navelim, etc, the Power department has restored almost all the high tension lines, while the linesmen are on the job to restore the low tension lines.
Assistant engineer Kavendra Naik said with the high tension lines restored, the process of restoring low tension lines has commenced almost in all the areas in Navelim, Nessai and Sao Jose de Areal, exuding confidence of providing power supply to these villages by late
Tuesday.
Executive Engineer, Alvito Fernandes said the department officials and the ground staff is working overtime to restore power in entire Curtorim village. After having worked till the wee hours of Tuesday, Alvito said supply has been restored to parts of Curtorim village, but hastened to add there are still many areas coming under three power transformers where supply is yet to be restored. “There’s one transformer, which supplies power to large areas of Curtorim, which has suffered major damage. Most likely work on this transformer will be taken up later tonight or tomorrow. We are presently working on the remaining two transformers,” he added.
Villages such as Assolna, which went without power since Sunday, received supply only on Tuesday evening, bringing relief to the people.
Officials, however, made it clear that while the department focused on restoration of HT and LT lines first, there may be still issues in respect of local connections.
Some parts of the Salcete coastal belt had received power late Monday night itself, but there were several other areas which were awaiting power restoration. While the department managed to restore power supply to many parts of Colva village, the ground staff were on the job late Tuesday to restore the power supply in the remaining areas.
Similar was the situation in the remaining villages where the department has been working on to restore power supply.
