Power Minister Ramkrishna Dhavalikar said that the government is actively working to minimise power interruptions caused by falling trees through improved equipment, regular maintenance, and long-term infrastructure upgrades.
The minister addressed issues surrounding the power outage problem in the State raised by Sanvordem MLA Ganesh Gaonkar in the Assembly. Dhavalikar said to tackle the situation, several steps have been taken.
"We conduct regular trimming and pruning of tree branches both before and after the monsoon season to prevent power disruptions. The Power Department has ordered new equipment to help with maintenance and repairs," Dhavalikar said.
Giving details on the equipment to be used by the power department, the minister said 12 crane-mounted trucks with a 15.7-tonne capacity will be used in the State, with one assigned to each division. He informed that 38 sky lifters equipped with insulated buckets of 250 kg capacity will be provided, with one for each sub-division.
"The Department is also working on converting high-tension overhead lines to an underground system. This conversion aims to reduce power outages caused by falling trees and branches," Dhavalikar said.
Speaking on the Sanvordem and Statewide details, he said that trimming of tree branches in Sanvordem is part of the ongoing maintenance efforts. The work is continuous and not confined to a single area.
