The long delay in the trial of the Power rebate scam case allegedly involving former Power Minister Mauvin Godinho has taken a toll on the witnesses.
When the case came up for trial before South Goa District and Sessions Court Judge Irshad Agha on Friday, the prosecution submitted the difficulty in serving summons on the witnesses.
In fact, of the seven summons issued by the court, the public prosecutor submitted that summons could be served only on two witnesses. Two witnesses were not found on their addresses while another witness has shifted his residence to Karwar, it was submitted to the Court.
Still another witness was not found at his residence.
The court issued bailable warrant to a witness after he refused to acknowledge the summons.
Given that the prosecution is finding it difficult to trace the witnesses, the public prosecutor has asked for a longer date, which has been granted.
Trial in the case which was conducted every week as per the directions of the High Court, will now resume on September 1.
