Five persons were booked for cheating an Aldona youth of Rs 4.70 lakh with a false promise of providing a job abroad, Mapusa police said.
The complainant Joel Sequeira informed the police the accused Shaikh Samir alias Sameer Mohidin of Navelim and Sayad Saif of M/s Noor Al Marjan Tourism and three others induced him to provide a good job and had extracted an amount of Rs 4.70 lakhs from him.
The accused neither fulfilled the promise nor managed to return the money back to the complainant.
According to police, the complainant was previously working in Dubai and had returned back to Goa during the pandemic.
Mapusa Police has registered an offence under Section 420 read with 34 of the IPC against the five accused.
