Mayor of the Corporation of the City of Panaji, Uday Madkaikar on Thursday said the pre-monsoon work in the city will be completed by May 31.
“Major pre-monsoon works will be done. I am personally monitoring it. We will see that there is no flooding in the city,” Madkaikar told the media at a press conference.
He also assured that garbage will be lifted from each and every ward and claimed that 95 per cent of the potholes are being repaired.
He however expressed his disappointment over smart city project work in the city. He said that roads which are being dug for smart city work have not been repaired by the contractor.
Pre-monsoon work is being done in full swing and we are using private trucks to lift garbage.
Many flooding points have been cleared, the Mayor said but complained that he is not getting cooperation from the CCP commissioner.
He said the final decision on the CCP Commissioner’s order to hotels and housing societies for setting up garbage treatment plants in their premises will be taken shortly and claimed that the Ribandar residents were facing problems due to shabby smart city work.
Madkaikar also demanded that the proposed Bainguinim garbage treatment plant should be completed at the earliest.“As there is no garbage treatment plant we have to adjust garbage disposal in the city. Some garbage we are dumping and treating behind Heera Petrol pump area. Some garbage is sent to Saligao Garbage treatment plant. But still some waste we have to adjust somehow,” said Uday Madkaikar.
He raised apprehensions whether the collector’s order that no road digging work can be done after May 15 will be obeyed by smart city project contractors.
