The Goa State Biodiversity Board (GSBB) has asked the Paroda Panchayat to protect and preserve the spring at Mullem in Gudi-Paroda.

During a recent joint visit of GSBB Member Secretary Nitin Sawant along with the Paroda Panchayat members, it was observed that the spring at Mullem needs attention from the local body.

Looking at the bad condition where the natural spring exists, the Biodiversity Board official asked the panchayat to protect and preserve the natural water body.

GSBB Member Secretary Nitin Sawant told Paroda Sarpanch Deepak Kharangate that there is a need to protect and preserve the natural spring. “The place is rich in ecology and contain various species of medicinal plants as well as animal species,” Sawant said.

“The place has been made dirty and liquor tins, glass and plastic bottles, wrappers are dumped which can easily pollute the natural water body,” said Sawant.

Later, Paroda Sarpanch Kharangate along with other panchas decided to clean the place soon. The panchayat will also write to the police to patrol the area, as there are chances of untoward incidents taking place in the area.

“The panchayat members will discuss the issue in the panchayat meeting and it will also be discussed during the gram sabha to take opinion of the villagers,” said Kharangate.
