The Town and Country Planning came under sustained criticism at the Camurlim gram sabha on Sunday for granting housing projects without checking the ground reality, even as angry gram sabha members contended that no new multi-dwelling units should be approved without addressing the garbage disposal problem.

The issue of waste disposal and the TCP’s decision to grant technical sanction without taking cognizance of the waste disposal mechanism angered the gram sabha members, who threatened to gherao the TCP office in the future.

Gram sabha member Roman Jesus slammed the TCP for inaction when the builders misuse the open spaces after the issuance of occupancy certificates. He said the TCP should ascertain the ground reality in Carmurlim before according technical sanction for the housing projects. It is shocking that TCP grants the approvals without inspecting the site,” he said.

After much discussion, the gram sabha chaired by Sarpanch Hilda Sequeira decided to send a letter to the TCP to act by taking into account the ground reality.

MARGAO: The Telaulim gram sabha on Sunday discussed the issue of grass cutting and resolutions not being implemented by the government authorities.

At the gram sabha meeting chaired by Sarpanch F Carneiro, members demanded to know why the PWD has not taken up the work of clearing the road side grass when tenders were issued to carry out the work.

Members were told that the panchayat has started work on grass cutting as the PWD did not take up the work on time.

Members also questioned the Chair why resolutions adopted by the gram sabha have not been implemented by the government authorities. Members pointed out that though the gram sabha had been adopting a host of resolution vis-à-vis development, no action has been forthcoming from the government authorities.
