With prime accused in the fake Excise Commissioner job fraud case Ajit Shankwalkar still on the run, Panaji police have named his wife Rupali Shankhwalkar aa a co-accused.
Officials said her name was added after thorough scrutiny of financial transactions. Fearing arrest, she approached the court seeking anticipatory bail after police issued her a notice directing to appear before the investigating officer for questioning in the case. The court is scheduled to hear her anticipatory bail application on Friday.
The case came to light after Manoj Talekar walked into the Excise Department office in Panaji with an allegedly forged government order claiming he had been appointed Excise Commissioner. He had allegedly paid Ajit Rs 27 lakh for the promised government job. Police subsequently registered cases against Ajit for alleged cheating and forgery.
The investigation has also covered other alleged financial dealings, including money collected on promises of government jobs and a property transaction. Ajit has been untraceable since the scam surfaced, with police teams attempting to locate him.
