Residents of Veling-Priol on Sunday voiced their strong opposition to a proposed mega project in Cuncoliem.
Putting forth their concerns at a Gram Sabha chaired by Sarpanch Harsha Gawde, the residents stated that if the mega project is allowed in the Cuncoliem village, it would not only affect the environment but would also spoil the natural beauty of the village. A resolution to this effect was adopted in the Gram Sabha.
The villagers have also submitted memorandum to Chief Minister Pramod Sawant, the governor, the TCP minister, local MLAs and other officials of departments concerned stating their concerns.
A resolution to levy a garbage tax of Rs 200 per year was also passed in the Gram Sabha, as the panchayat is spending an annual amount of Rs 20 lakh on the collection of garbage in the panchayat area.
