The issues regarding mega projects, hot mixing of roads, fogging, collection of garbage, cleaning of drains and nullahs, changing of zones were discussed in the gram sabha at Saligao held on Sunday.
At the outset, Diago Fernandes raised the issue of permissions for mega projects saying that no permissions should be given to mega projects in village without getting the approval of the villagers in the gram sabha.
Sarpanch Lucas Remedios replied that the panchayat is bound to give the construction licence to the builder once the Town and Country Planning department approves the project. If the panchayat does not give the construction licence then the builder approaches the Director of Panchayat and gets the permission.
The villagers also raised issue of the road from Dattawadi temple to Calangute-Saligao border that has become pathetic and needs repairs and hotmixing immediately. They have been requesting the panchayat for the last 8 months to repair and hotmix the said road but in vain. The villagers said they will be forced to come on the road if the hotmixing of the said road is not done immediately.
The villagers noted that there has been substantial rise in dengue cases in Saligao and hence the Primary Health Centre should be requested to carry out fogging in Saligao.
The sarpanch replied that the PHC has carried out the fogging wherever the cases of dengue has been found. Health centers opined that fogging should not be undertaken everywhere from health point of view, added Remedios.
The villagers pointed out that the panchayat should clean the drains and nullahs as the same have been filled with mud and garbage.
The sarpanch said that the panchayat cleans all the drains and nullahs in the village before the onset of monsoon. Some nullahs and drains have chocked up because of excessive rain this monsoon. Panchayat has to first issue the tender and get the proposal approved by Block Development Office and then start the work, Remedios said.
Earlier the sarpanch welcomed the villagers. Later the Secretary Premanand Mandrekar read out the minutes of the gramsabha held in the month of August 2024. The deputy sarpanch Utkarsha Kudnekar proposed a vote of thanks.
