Untested as an administrator, Goa’s new Chief Minister Dr Pramod Sawant has his task cut out in as far as taking a grip of the State’s bureaucracy-driven administration.

Taking charge of office at the Secretariat Sawant admitted it was his top priority to “take control” of the administration admitting he would only be a pale shadow of his mentor Manohar Parrikar in this department.

The late chief minister was known to have an unique, vice-like grip on the administration with a clique of bureaucrats being placed in key positions to play complimentary roles to ensure policy and executive decisions fructify.

Sawant said, he will take forward Parrikar’s legacy and policies to ensure human as well as infrastructure development in Goa. He acknowledged it would be paramount for him to take guard in the administration.

“To take control of the administration is my first priority,” Sawant said, adding he will focus on completing projects which were initiated by Manohar Parrikar and work on which was going on.

On the mining issue, Sawant said his government wants to tackle the issues at the earliest. He will be leaving for Delhi on Thursday and meet Central leaders and ministers, he said.

Meanwhile, if former chief minister, late Manohar Parrikar was a  workaholic with a hectic schedule, the new Chief Minister Dr Pramod  Sawant was as busy as his mentor and predecessor on Day One as head of  the government.

Barely hours after being sworn in as Chief Minister at about 1.45 am  on Tuesday, Dr Sawant lost no time in visiting his native place at  Kothanbi-Pali and seeking the blessings of Goddess Sateri and  Chandreshwar Bhutnath for the development of the State.

A group of local women welcomed him with arti in the presence of many jubilant supporters.

Later speaking to reporters, Dr Sawant said he would give his  100 per cent to working for the betterment of Goa with efficiency and  dignity.
