MAPUSA
Rovina Lobo, a prisoner arrested by Colvale Police in connection with an alleged drug smuggling case at Colvale Central Jail, was produced before the Mapusa JMFC Court on Monday.
The court remanded her to 14 days of judicial custody.
Lobo was arrested after police allegedly recovered suspected narcotic substances linked to an attempt to smuggle drugs into the jail. The incident has raised concerns over the entry of contraband into the high-security prison despite regular checks and seizures.
Colvale Police are investigating how the suspected drugs were brought into the prison and whether others were involved in the alleged smuggling attempt.
The arrest comes amid continuing security concerns at Colvale Central Jail, where authorities have reported the recovery of mobile phones and other prohibited items during searches of inmate blocks in recent months.
