Congress on Sunday demanded an investigation into the sudden death of former Director General of Police Pranab Nanda last year and its alleged connection with BJP-drug mafia nexus.
Goa Congress President Girish Chodankar said, “We demand that detailed investigation should be done of the sudden death of former DGP Nanda, who died of cardiac arrest in Delhi in November last year, immediately after landing in Delhi. He was a very efficient officer and was probing various drug related cases. He was fit and fine and had no reason to get a severe cardiac arrest.”
Congress claimed to have learnt from highly reliable sources that the DGP Nanda had almost concluded investigating one particular tricky case wherein a businessman in the coastal belt was blackmailed by a police officer demanding huge amounts from him with a threat of falsely involving him in a drug case. DGP Nanda, after receiving complaints from the said businessman, had started a departmental inquiry.
“The BJP government pressured DGP Nanda to go slow on the investigation but he refused to do so and continued with inquiry in which one of the influential police officer was indicted and was above to be suspended,” Chodankar alleged.
