Confusion prevailed in Sattari taluka for the last two days with the citizens claiming that the short notice given for submitting the documents for availing the toilet scheme is not viable. They have demanded that 15 days should be given for submitting the documents.
The citizens claim that in a circular issued through the Panchayat Department on Friday, it was ordered to complete the required documents for the benefit of the scheme within two days (on Saturday and Sunday), and submit the same to the concerned panchayats.
Though all the panchayat offices in Sattari were open on these two days, the citizens further claimed that due to the closure of government offices during this period, the process could not be completed by them. Besides, as many villages in Sattari taluka are far away from Valpoi town, it is not possible to complete the process in a short notice.
The citizens have reacted that the leaflet issued by the government is the culmination of unplanned activities and that it is difficult to complete the paperwork process in two days.
They claim that this requires affidavits and other documents to avail the benefits of the scheme. Without it, these documents cannot be created. They fear that many will be deprived of this scheme.
About a year ago, an order was issued through the Panchayat Department to submit the documents for the implementation of the toilet scheme. As a result, about 1500 families of Sattari taluka had registered for this scheme by paying the amount directed by the government but have not yet benefited from the same.
The government has once again made this scheme available to the people in the State. The scheme has been implemented for different groups under Swachh Nirman Yojana for two components - below the poverty line and above the poverty line.
