Project to dispose debris planned in Mapusa: Cabral

MAPUSA

Environment Minister Nilesh Cabral on Friday stated that a project to dispose of construction debris is being planned in Mapusa through the Goa Solid Waste Management Corporation.

Speaking at a Construction and Demolition workshop at Saligao, Cabral said a centre each in North and South Goa would be established for the CND project, from where the solid waste would be transported to the Mapusa unit.

“Construction waste is seen dumped by the roadsides and many a time, agricultural land is filled by debris. The government is trying to find a way to dispose of such debris, as it is discarded in empty spaces by the side of the highways, causing a nuisance to the public. This sometimes blocks the natural flow of water. The government is trying to initiate this project to resolve this issue,” stated Cabral.

“A plot of government land at Mapusa has been selected for the purpose.”

The minister also informed that the government has taken steps to stop the use of plastic.
