The Prosecution on Wednesday made a strong case before the South Goa Sessions Court for the custodial interrogation of Leader of the Opposition Babu Kavlekar and brother Babal, saying the MLA is allegedly involved in economic offencses to the detriment of the society.

The prosecution pointed out that there cannot be free and fair investigations in the High Cour

"The MLA is wanted in an economic offense case, which has consequences to the community, state and the national economy," Public Prosecutor Ladislav Fernandes submitted before the Sessions court. "Unless the applicants are subjected to interrogations in custody, it would be difficult to come to a conclusion", he said, while promising to place before the court copies of the panchanama.
Ruling the possibility of any politics behind the case registered against Babu and brother Babal, the public prosecutor pointed out that the FIR is based on the High Court direction.
The public prosecutor submitted before the court that Babu has not been cooperating with the police, adding that the applicant is wanted in
custody to establish his links with the gambling operators following the seizure of the huge quantity of gaming slips from the room near his residence.
Saying that the two brothers have not been cooperating with the investigating agency, the public
prosecutor said the defence has not made out any case before the court to grant them anticipatory bail.
