Concerned citizens of Goa has strongly condemned the event to 'release’ a book written about the murderer of the Father of the Nation at Ravindra Bhavan, Margao at the hands of its Chairman, Damodar Naik.
The citizens, including Abhijeet Prabhudesai, Ramkrishna Jalmi, Ramesh Gauns, Sidharth Karapurkar, Rony Dias, Diana Tavares, John Fernandes, Gurunath Kelekar and others have demanded that the government immediately revokes the permission for the use of government facilities for the release of a book about the murder of Mahatma Gandhi. They also demanded that Damu Naik immediately apologises to the nation for his agreement to participate in the anti-national event, and that the misuse of position and power for anti-national activities be immediately probed by the highest offices of the country.
“The government has openly encouraged the celebration of the book about Mahatma Gandhi’s murderer by allowing the use of Ravindra Bhavan for the event. The release of the book at the hands of a senior government official makes it an official State event, and reveals the anti-national position of the persons in charge of Goa government. While our Prime Minister invokes Mahatma Gandhi on overseas trips, Goa government is actively helping those defaming him and his ideology of peace, truth and social justice," the citizens asserted.
......................Damu doubts permission granted could be withdrawn
MARGAO: Chairman of Ravindra Bhavan, Margao, Damu Naik has wondered whether Ravindra Bhavan can withdraw permission granted to Anup Ashok Sardesai to release his book on Nathuram Godse, but hastened to add that he will take a call whether to attend the function or not.
When The Goan contacted him to shed light on the controversy surrounding the celebration of the release of book on Nathuram Godse at the Ravindra Bhavan, Damu said the party might have booked the hall after completing the formalities. “He must have booked the hall under the prevailing scheme. I do not know whether the permission granted to the party can be withdrawn now," he said.
Asked whether he would attend the function and release the book on January 30 at Ravindra Bhavan, Damu said “as an individual, I am free to take a call on the issue. I have not decided whether to attend the function or not, but there’s still time to take a decision".
