Protest march by GPCC to mark note ban anniversary

Goa Pradesh Congress Committee and all its frontal organizations will observe a ‘Black Day' to mark the first anniversary of demotization of Rs 500 and Rs 1,000 notes, the decision of the central BJP government made last year.
Mahila Congress president Pratima Countinho informed that Congress president Sonia Gandhi and AICC vice president Rahul Gandhi have given directions to all Congressmen all over the country to observe November 8 as a ‘Black Day' in protest against Goods and Service Tax regime and demonetization.
"In accordance with the instructions, GPCC has planned a protest morcha from the Congress House in Panaji, around the capital city and back from 4 pm on Wednesday," Coutinho announced.
Coutinho was speaking at the sidelines of a protest organized by members of Mahila Congress against price rise and hike in the price of LPG cylinders. Mahila Congress workers set up a traditional ‘chool' (wood-fired stove set up using three bricks) in front of the Captain of Ports office at Panaji and gave slogans against the BJP-led central government and against Prime Minister Narendra Modi.
Addressing the protestors, Coutinho said, "Prime Minister Narendra Modi has let down the trust of a billion people. He has backstabbed us all. LPG cylinder was priced at Rs 400 during Congress regime. But today, the prices of LPG cylinder have increased by Rs 100. GST, demonetization and all the decisions of BJP government have made it difficult for a housewife to run her household," she argued.
Mahila Congress has demanded the rollback of the amount of LPG hike.
"The government is not making policies for the poor but for the uber rich," Coutinho lashed out.
A vocal member of Mahila Congress and wife of GPCC president Shantaram Naik, Beena Naik sought to point out that the BJP's marketing strategy is really strong. "They can sell lies as truth. After every session of the Parliament, the PM goes on a foreign trip and when he goes abroad, he wears a suit of Rs 10 lakhs. His attire alone is worth 2,000 LPG cylinders," she explained.
