The old age home, which has been completely renovated and refurbished with state-of-the-art facilities by the GSIDC, was inaugurated by Chairman Michael Lobo in the presence of Minister for Provedoria Subhash Shirodkar, PWD Minister Digambar Kamat and others.
Saying the GSIDC has been undertaking projects for people across age groups—from renovating old schools for children to refurbishing old age homes for senior citizens—Lobo said: “We don’t say people should send their parents to old age homes. But there is a need for such homes for those who have no one to look after them, no caregivers, or whose children are abroad. Such elders will receive good facilities here. We have inspected the rooms, dormitories and toilets, and the inmates can look forward to five-star facilities.”
He added: “The GSIDC consultant has ensured that the architectural heritage of the city is preserved in the renovation of the old age home. Though it is located in the heart of Margao, the inmates will have ample space to walk within the premises. The government, headed by Chief Minister Pramod Sawant, will ensure that the residents are well looked after and provided with good food and other facilities.”
Impressed by the renovation, the GSIDC chairman said the Margao old age home could serve as a model for similar Provedoria-run facilities across the State.
