Shack operators on Wednesday claimed they have been issued provisional licenses, a move expected to boost early tourist arrivals to Goa this season. The operators have now applied to various linked departments for NOCs to begin operations with the tourist season set to start on October 2.
“Provisional shack licenses have been issued. All applications have now been forwarded to other departments for NOCs,” President of the Shack Owners Welfare Society Cruz Cardozo told reporters after a meeting with Tourism Minister Rohan Khaunte.
The operators also put forth unresolved tourism-related issues which the minister assured to address in the upcoming meeting.
The shack demarcation process began on September 2 in South Goa while tourism officials allowed operators in North Goa to begin erecting shacks based on last year’s demarcations.
North Goa accommodates a total of 259 shacks of which Calangute has the highest number at 108 followed by 88 in Candolim, 12 in Arambol, 11 in Morjim and 10 in Mandrem among other areas.
Tourism season could record around 24 charter flights weekly starting Oct 2.
While Russia and UK will continue to lead tourists arrivals, a new spotlight is on Kazakhstan, Uzbekistan and Poland.
