Expressing its intention to set their footprint in Goa, Bhoomi Green Energy Pvt Ltd (BGEPL) Director Vijay Tilekar said his firm would be in a position to solve the garbage issue all over Goa within six months.
“Goans are very sensitive to environmental issues and there are many NGOs that also oppose the setting up of SWTP plants in Goa. The basic reason is because of the smell that spreads in the surrounding areas.”
“We have three plants operating and we have the technology to use high-quality additives to ensure that there is no smell anywhere around the plant and as such there will never be a reason for anyone to oppose the plant. We can also give this as a written assurance in the special clause if required,” said Tilekar, while speaking to reporters at the company site at Hadapsar-Pune.
“Basically, the issue of smell is caused because many SWTP plants have earlier failed miserably and the garbage dumps are lying unattended and causing stink and inviting rodents, flies, birds, dogs and cattle, making things miserable for residents.”
“Our machinery is clean and there is good coordination among the staff in functioning of this plant is another major reason for regular and efficient treating of waste without it getting piled up. As a result, it does not cause any smell,” said Tilekar.
“As per my knowledge, Goa generates 700 metric tonnes of waste each day and during the season, it goes upto 1200 metric tonnes.”
“If it is true, then the garbage issue of Goa can be solved within six months given that everything goes smoothly without any obstacles. Our idea is to set up two huge plants, one in North Goa and another in South Goa.”
He said the panchayats and municipalities from both districts can directly dump their waste for processing at these plants.
“We can generate compost which can then be given to Goan farmers while RDF can be used for power generation,” said Tilekar.
“We are ready to accept the challenge. We assure that the SWTP working on biomining technology doesn’t attract stray dogs, cattle, bees, flies. Also, there is no foul odour at the plant due to use of new environment-friendly technology,” Tilekar added.
