MARGAO
The PWD has commenced the preliminary work of soil testing for the construction of the proposed kilometre-long Victor Hospital-La Flor hotel flyover, which will connect the city’s east to the west on the Margao ring road.

In another development, the PWD, National Highway, has now been entrusted with the job of constructing the Rs 91-crore flyover. The PWD, Roads Division, however, will set in motion the process of land acquisition for the flyover.

PWD sources informed that the soil testing is a preliminary work carried out by the department, which will help to prepare an estimate for the project. “We have just initiated the work of soil testing. This exercise itself will take some time. This will be followed by preparation of the estimates, culminating in the floating of the tender,” informed a senior PWD official.

The central government had sanctioned the flyover between Victor Hospital-La Flor to complete the long-pending Margao ring road project. The ring road has hit a dead end near the migrant-inhabited colony near Cine Lata. Once completed, the flyover will avoid displacement and rehabilitation of the inhabitants of the colony.

Incidentally, though the Goa government had proposed two flyovers on the Margao ring road, the flyover proposed at the Comba railway crossing has so far not found favour with the central government despite assurances given by Chief Minister Pramod Sawant, both within and outside the Assembly that the Comba flyover will be executed on priority.
