MARGAO
There’s good news for the Margao-based lawyers and the judicial officials as the PWD finally found bidders for the construction of the new Margao Civil and Criminal Court building adjoining the District Court building.
If sources in the PWD are to be believed, the tender floated to construct the modern court building at an estimated cost of Rs 13.20 crore has evoked a response from more than two bidders.
A senior PWD official pointed out that the file will now be forwarded to the Law department for approval.
To a question, the PWD official, however, said the progress of the tendering process will now depend on the Law department, how fast they clear the file and make available the funds for the construction.
Sources said the PWD has found the bidders given the government’s decision to revise the GSR rates. Many a bidder had in the past stayed away from taking up PWD works since the old GSR rates were not revised despite a steep rise in the construction material.
The work on the new court building was abandoned midway over the last year, as a result of which all work on the building had come to a halt.
