While refurbishment of the decades-old South Goa Administrator of Comunidades building is underway, the government has clarified that it has not taken possession of the heritage structure, which has served as the seat of the South Goa Comunidades administration since the post-Liberation period.
PWD Minister Digambar Kamat on Tuesday said the Public Works Department is undertaking only renovation and structural strengthening of the building and has no plans to take it over.
“We are only renovating and strengthening the Comunidades building. The government has not taken possession of the building. Those who were occupying the building when it was shut will get to function from the building,” Kamat said.
According to sources, all government offices that were functioning from the Comunidades building have since been relocated. “The Goa State Cooperative Bank was the last office to operate from the building before it shifted its operations elsewhere in the city,” an official said.
