As he came across complaints of red tape in the Margao Municipal Council, PWD Minister Digambar Kamat on Tuesday has mulled a system to improve the disposal of applications and to address grievances.
At his weekly Pubic Darbar at the Margao Municipal Council, the Minister came across complaints of delays on the part of the Civic body to dispose of applications for the transfer of house tax, trade license etc. This prompted the Minister to suggest a mechanism where applications and grievances are disposed and addressed in a time bound manner.
“I am committed to ensuring that every citizen's voice is heard, I interacted with residents and addressed their grievances during the public grievance redressal session held at the Margao Municipal Council”, he said.
He later told the media that a full-proof mechanism for disposal of applications will be put in place at the Margao Municipal Council after a meeting with the Municipal Administrator and Chief Officer.
“I have asked for a list of pending applications for transfer of house tax and trade license. Our initiative is to ensure that files are disposed of in a time bound manner. We have to give relief to the spot”, he said.
The Minister said that this is perhaps for the first time in recent history that the Margao Municipal New Market and Gandhi Market is being repaired and renovated with roof by the Public Works Department.
The Minister also cautioned the MMC to ensure that garbage collection is carried out on a regular basis. He has mulled a dedicated garbage collection number, wherein households can call on the number to complain about non-collection of waste. “I will discuss the issue with the district Collector how best to streamline garbage collection”, he added.
