After the May 13 exercise coming a cropper, officials of the PWD, National Highway are bracing up to carry out demarcation of the land proposed for acquisition for the new Borim bridge across Zuari Bridge.

If sources are to be believed, the PWD had tentatively planned the demarcation exercise on May 23. Sources, however, said the exercise would take place depending on the availability of the land survey officials, with an official saying the exercise may take place next week.

A senior PWD official told The Goan that the demarcation exercise is required to ascertain the number of houses, structures etc coming in the alignment of the bridge proposed for construction for the purpose of valuation.

The official further said that the officials will issue order for the parties in question whose land is proposed to be acquired for the construction of the high level Borim bridge. “The Land Acquisition notification is already published. The objections lodged by the parties and others have all been rejected by the land acquisition officer.  The stage has now come for the issue of orders to the parties and to carry out the demarcation to identify the trees, houses, and structures in the proposed alignment”, the official said.

Farmers had last week maintained that hearings of the hundreds of objections filed by the people before the Land Acquisition Officer have not been decided, but the PWD officers have commenced the survey and demarcation work on the false basis that all the objections of the villagers have been dismissed.

In fact, Xavier Fernandes had informed the media that when PWD officials were asked on site to produce copies of any orders dismissing the objections, they could not do so.
