With Loutolim villagers maintaining vigil on the proposed demarcation exercise proposed to be undertaken in the village and protests intensified against the proposed bridge alignment, the PWD, National Highways have sought police protection to carry out the exercise.
A senior PWD Officer informed that the PWD has already written a letter to the Goa Police seeking police protection to the officials taking part in the demarcation exercise.
Against this backdrop and given that the villagers and farmers of Loutlim have repeatedly hit the roads to protest over the construction of the bridge through the fields, senior police officials are believed to have held discussions with leaders spearheading the agitation.
Though what has transpired at the discussions is not known, sources said the police officials are believed to have impressed upon the activists that though protest is their right, they cannot come in the way of the demarcation exercise of the acquiring department.
