The Public Works Department (PWD) has announced plans to initiate the restoration of land by removing and disposing of debris from land holdings under the jurisdiction of the village panchayats of Socorro, Sangolda and Guirim.

In a public notice, the PWD’s Division XIII stated that this action is being undertaken in compliance with an order passed by the High Court of Bombay at Goa on April 1. The court has directed that affected land holdings be restored to their original condition within three months, based on survey numbers listed in the notice.

To facilitate the process, the Executive Engineer (EE) emphasised the urgent need to prepare cost estimates for the restoration work. The EE noted that timely estimates are crucial to ensure the restoration proceeds as per the court's deadline.

According to the PWD, the village panchayat of Sangolda has submitted jurisdictional landholding details, while the Administrator of Comunidades, North Zone, has provided information related to land holdings in all three panchayats – Socorro, Sangolda and Guirim.

The site inspections will be jointly conducted by the Administrator of Comunidades (North) and a Junior Engineer/Technical Assistant from the PWD. The department has invited other interested parties, including landowners, petitioners, and village panchayats, to participate in the inspection process to facilitate smooth execution.

Additionally, the PWD has made a special appeal to representatives of the village panchayats of Guirim, Sangolda, and Socorro to extend their cooperation during the site inspections.

The inspection schedule is as follows: Guirim VP: May 8 and 9, starting at 11 am until completion. Sangolda VP: May 14 and 15, starting at 11 am until completion. Socorro VP: May 20 and 21, starting at 11 am until completion.

The PWD has urged all stakeholders to coordinate effectively to ensure the successful and timely restoration of the affected land parcels.
