After years of neglect, the Old Market Tinto is set for a major facelift, with PWD Minister Digambar Kamat assuring that a draft plan will be prepared to develop a modern Tinto in keeping with Goa’s environment and heritage. The minister gave the assurance after inaugurating the beautification work around the Tinto area, which is currently used by the Margao Municipal Council (MMC) for vehicle parking.

The beautification work has helped remove an eyesore at the Old Market, with the MMC laying pavers to ensure organised parking of municipal vehicles. Praising the initiative, Kamat said the council deserved credit for improving the area. “The work has enhanced the entire space and removed the eyesore. As for rebuilding a new Tinto, I will ask PWD engineers to prepare a draft plan that matches Goa’s environment and heritage,” he said.

Kamat added that the area would look even better if the gaddas are properly

rehabilitated. Meanwhile, Margao Municipal Chairperson Damu Shirodkar complimented the contractor for executing quality work at a cost of Rs 32 lakh. He also praised Municipal Engineer Dipak Desai, Assistant Engineer Suhas Desai and other technical staff for closely supervising and monitoring the project.
