PWD to put up sign boards on western  bypass in next two days: DySP Traffic

Traffic sign boards showing diversion of national highway traffic on the western bypass are yet to be put in place at the Belem junction, Navelim.

Conceding that the traffic sign boards have not been put in place at the entry and exit points of the newly commissioned Margao western bypass, DySP Traffic Cell, Margao Rajendra Prabhudesai on Tuesday said that officials of the PWD, National highway have been requested to install the sign boards on priority.

In fact, DySP Prabhudesai informed that a meeting was held with officials of the PWD, NH wherein it was brought to their attention that in the absence of traffic sign board at the entry and exit points at Navelim and Verna that heavy National Highway traffic is still plying through Margao City and on the Eastern bypass. “The PWD officials have promised to put the sign boards in place in the next two days. It will help streamline traffic at the entry and exit points”, he added.

Navelim villagers have pointed out that confusion prevails at the Belem-Navelim traffic junction, slowing down traffic. While local traffic takes the western bypass to proceed to North Goa, heavy traffic continues to ply through Navelim before taking the Eastern bypass at Rawanfond.
