Which agency is responsible for manning the traffic signals at the accident-prone Belem traffic junction at Navelim, where the existing NH66 meets the Margao western bypass?
With the western bypass officially thrown open for traffic, the traffic signals installed at the Belem traffic junction at Navelim ought to have been made functional by the authorities to regulate the heavy traffic.
Sadly, the traffic signals have not been functioning for over a week now. That’s not all. No traffic personnel is posted at the Belem traffic junction to regulate the traffic flow manually, leaving the motorists to fend for themselves.
When The Goan drew attention of a senior PWD, NH official to shed light on the non-functional traffic signals, he was quick to reply that the matter falls in the jurisdiction of the traffic police.
Interestingly, a senior traffic official pointed out that the traffic police has not installed any traffic signals anywhere, adding that the traffic signals are either installed by the authorities or sponsored by agencies. “We will find out why the traffic signals are not working at the Belem junction”, the senior traffic official added.
