Chief Minister Pramod Sawant on Tuesday addressed concerns regarding severe traffic congestion affecting service roads leading to the Goa Medical College & Hospital (GMC) and beneath the Atal Setu in Panaji.
Sawant confirmed that the government is aware of the significant traffic jams experienced on these service roads, especially during peak hours. Despite this awareness, no formal study has been conducted by the Public Works Department (PWD) to evaluate the specifics of the traffic issues or to identify the root causes.
The PWD is in the process of developing an action plan to address the congestion problems. However, as of now, there is no available study report detailing the problem or offering specific solutions.
The action plan is still under consideration, and the timeline for when it will be implemented remains unclear.
A key concern has been improving access to GMC, particularly for emergency vehicles such as ambulances. Sawant revealed that there is currently no proposal to create a dedicated corridor to facilitate quicker access for these critical vehicles.
As such, there is no established timeline for any such initiative, if it were to be proposed in the future.
While the government recognizes the ongoing traffic congestion issues and acknowledges the need for solutions, concrete plans and timelines for resolving these problems are still in development.
The Public Works Department is working on an action plan to address the traffic jams, but specific details and timelines have yet to be finalized.
