The Bastora panchayat will soon implement ‘no parking’ around the Tar junction to avoid congestion and ensure smooth movement of traffic at the crucial junction.
Several shopkeepers had encroached near the junction while people with vehicles halted to patronize these shops thus creating congestion and chaos there.
“The panchayat has received a notification declaring the Bastora Tar junction area as no parking zone. We will soon start implementing the decision to avoid the problem of traffic congestion in the area,” said Subhash Morajkar, Chairperson of the gram sabha in absence of the sarpanch and the deputy.
Raising the issue of water logging and encroachment at the Bastora junction, a local Sagar Salgaonkar said the pedestrians and two-wheeler riders were inconvenienced the most due to the problem.
“The problem will further accentuate during the Ganesh Chaturthi festival. The panchayat should take immediate steps to correct the deficiencies and bring about some sanity at the junction,” Salgoankar said.
Another resident, John Abreau suggested issuing notices to people who have carried out landfilling around the place.
He also called for carrying out an inspection of the junction to get first hand information of the problems faced by the people.
In order to avoid water logging, former sarpanch Savio Martins suggested increasing the height of the road so that water can flow into the side drains.
It was also suggested to write to the highway authority to complete the drain work on the major district road (MDR).
The villagers also resolved to install a divider on the main road from the Menezes junction to the Super Washing Center as it was creating a lot of inconvenience to commuters.
A local expressed concern over spurt in theft cases and requested the panchayat to write to the police to increase night patrolling rounds in the village
The villagers also sought to know the status of the survey of tenants residing in the village.
The gram sabha chairperson informed that a survey of rented houses will be undertaken and further assured to write to the police to undertake a survey of verification of tenants in the village.
John Abreau raised the issue of stray dogs in ward 1 and suggested a sterilization drive for all the strays as they are increasing and causing nuisance in the village.
