Acting on multiple complaints from local residents, the Calangute panchayat has sealed a club operating in the Saunta Vaddo area for allegedly functioning without valid licences and engaging in irregular activities.

The action was carried out by Calangute Sarpanch Joseph Sequeira along with the panchayat secretary after an inspection and completion of due legal procedures.

Officials said the establishment was found to be operating in clear violation of rules, prompting immediate action.

“We had received several complaints from locals regarding the activities of this establishment. Upon inspection, it was found that the club did not have the required licences or an occupancy certificate. Following due process, we have sealed the premises,” Sequeira said.

According to panchayat sources, a show-cause notice had earlier been issued to the club, directing it to stop operations. While the establishment initially complied and remained shut for two days, it reportedly resumed business soon after, prompting further checks by authorities.

Further inquiries confirmed that the club lacked both a valid trade licence and an occupancy certificate, making its operations illegal under existing rules. Authorities then sealed the premises to ensure compliance and prevent further violations.

Local residents welcomed the action, stating that the alleged illegal operations had been a concern for some time. “We had raised issues about late-night disturbances and safety. It’s good that the panchayat has taken firm action,” said a resident from the area.

Officials said the crackdown is part of a wider effort to regulate commercial establishments in Calangute, a key tourist hub. “We will continue to monitor such activities closely. More inspections will be conducted in the coming days to ensure that all businesses operate within the law,” an official said.

The panchayat has warned that strict action will be taken against any other establishments found violating rules, reiterating its commitment to maintaining lawful and safe operations in Calangute.
