QMC to focus on dues recovery

Quepem Municipal Council (QMC) will discuss issues pertaining to solid waste management and the long-pending recovery of outstanding dues at a special council meeting on December 9.
It may be recalled that at a recent council meeting, the councillors had raised various issues of utmost importance pertaining to Quepem town. One of the major issues discussed was cutting down of expenditure on solid waste management plant after some councillors felt it was exorbitant.
The councillors had opined that to increase revenue of the council, it was essential to cut short the expenditure and focus on issues like recovery of outstanding dues from business establishments.
Speaking to The Goan, QMC Chairperson Filu D'Costa said some councillors said the expenditure incurred on solid waste management plant was too much. “QMC is paying Rs 2.62 lakh per month to the agency to look after solid waste management and the annual calculation comes to about Rs 31.80 lakh, which I feel is expensive,” said D'Costa.
“We plan to make QMC self sustainable. So, at the forthcoming meeting, the long-pending outstanding dues of a private school and a petrol pump in the municipal jurisdiction will be discussed. Taking into account the council's decision, necessary steps will be taken to recover as much of the amount as possible from these establishments,” D'Costa said.
