They may be a common sight elsewhere in the State, but the white stripes denoting Zebra Crossing paths made their maiden presence in Quepem town.

Quepem town has been combating with traffic congestion and parking woes for several years, while pedestrians had also found it difficult to cross the busy road.
After much thought, the Traffic Police decided to introduce two zebra crossing paths near the Quepem municipal garden for the first time in Quepem town,
When contacted, Quepem Municipal Council Chairperson Raul Pereira appreciated the work to notify Zebra Crossing paths in the town.
“We will also be designating a parking zone to solve the parking issue,” he said.
Sources from the Quepem Traffic Cell disclosed that the proposal for marking roads and Zebra Crossing had been sent to traffic authorities six months ago.
“We recently got permission to implement them in Quepem town. Marking of parking zone and Zebra Crossing paths will bring about traffic discipline in the town,” the source opined.
Dy Collector Prashant Shirodkar and the traffic police had suggested speed breakers, traffic sign boards and other measures to bring about traffic discipline and safety.
