Saprnach Emi later told the media that while the gram sabha has resolved to start door-to-door dry waste collection in the village, the panchayat would come out with the modalities how to go about the proposal. The meeting also deliberated and discussed the issue of the maintenance of the high mast lamps installed in the village under the MPLAD scheme. During discussions, the gram sabha members were informed that the financially weak panchayat is unable to pay the electricity bills of the high mast lamps nor is it in a position to take up the maintenance of the lamps. The meeting resolved to ask the authorities to take over the maintenance as well as the payment of the charges of three high mast lamps by the electricity department given the financially weak status of the panchayat.
Noted journalist and sportsman Vasu Naik (49) of Warkhande-Ponda passed away on Saturday morning following a brief illness. Naik's eyes were donated as per his wish.
