Raid on sand mining: 17 held, canoes seized

Seventeen workers were arrested, while seven canoes were seized in a raid jointly conducted by the Mines and Geology department and Captain of Ports at a sand extraction site at Nhaibag-Pernem on Friday.

According to sources, the Mines department and Captain of Ports received information on sand was being extracted from Tiracol river. Acting on the tip-off, the officials of both the departments swung into action and raided the site at Nhaibag-Pernem in the wee hours of Friday.  
The workers at the sand extraction site were taken into custody and were handed over to Pernem police, while seven canoes were seized out of which four did not have registration numbers. Pernem police have arrested the workers under Section 141 of IPC.

GTDC demolishes encroached structure in Anjuna property

The Goa Tourism Development Corporation (GTDC) on Friday demolished a restaurant, which had reportedly encroached in its property in Anjuna.

MAPUSA The demolition was carried out at D’Mello vaddo, Anjuna, just opposite Villa Anjuna Hotel. Sources informed that initially a licence for shop was allotted to the owner of the structure under the Deen Dayal scheme, but the owner later converted it into a restaurant and let it out to a third party.   GTDC demolished the restaurant/structure in the presence of Executive Magistrate, Mapusa, Sanjeev Gaude along with police and officials from the GTDC.…
