Railway budgetary allocation of Rs 482 cr for Goa, but no proposal for Comba flyover

In fact, KRC Deputy General Manager, Baban Ghatge has said there’s no proposal before the KRC to build a flyover at the Comba railway crossing or any other railway crossing on the KR route. He, however, hastened to add that the State government is following up the proposal to build a flyover at the Comba railway crossing with the Union Ministry of Road and Surface Transport Ministry.

In the past, the KRC had proposed to the State government the construction of flyovers along the line passing through Salcete at Comba, Seraulim and Majorda on a 50:50 cost sharing basis, but in vain.

When The Goan contacted a senior official of the RVNL, which is executing the track doubling work to shed light on the proposed flyover at the Comba railway crossing, the official reiterated that the Comba-Margao stretch of the railway line falls in the jurisdiction of the KRC. “The railway line passing through Margao falls in the Konkan Railway jurisdiction. Neither the SWR nor the RVNL has any jurisdiction over the line. Hence, there is no question of the SWR or the RVNL spending even a portion of the budgetary outlay for Goa to fund the Comba flyover construction project,” the official added.

Incidentally, the RVNL official pointed out that the State government has been pursuing the construction of the Comba crossing flyover with Union Minister for Road and Surface Transport Minister Nitin Gadkari. “May be the Goa PWD will be in a better position to shed light on the fate of the Comba railway crossing flyover,” the official added.

Senior PWD officials, however, could not shed light on the status of the proposed flyover at the Comba railway crossing.

The State government had over a year ago proposed two flyovers, one connecting the Victor Hospital to La Flor Hotel to connect and complete the Margao ring road project and the flyover at the Comba railway crossing. The Victor Hospital-La Flor flyover has found favour with the Union Ministry for Road and Surface Transport, while the fate of the Comba railway crossing flyover is unknown.

Majorda village to get flyover, footbridge-cum-2-wheeler bridge

MARGAO: There’s good news in store for the motorists as well as citizens crossing the Majorda railway crossing or using the subway.

Majorda village will get a flyover and a footbridge-cum-two-wheeler bridge over the railway tracks to ease traffic congestion.

Environment Minister Aleixo Sequeira, who represents Nuvem constituency, has told the media that the flyover and the footbridge-cum-two-wheeler bridge have been sanctioned for Majorda. While the footbridge-cum-two-wheeler bridge will come up at Utorda near the Church, Sequeira said the authorities are on the job to scout for suitable land to build the flyover at Majorda.

A senior RVNL official told The Goan that the Railways will build the flyover at Majorda and the footbridge-cum-two-wheeler bridge at Utorda.

The official further said the railway crossing at Majorda and Utorda will be shut down after the construction and commissioning of the flyover and the footbridge-cum-two-wheeler bridge. “The Railway Board has taken a decision that there ought to be no railway crossings where new railway line projects are being executed. Since the RVNL is executing the track doubling project on the Majorda-Cansaulim stretch, the Railways has decided to build the flyover (road over bridge) and the footbridge-cum-two-wheeler at Majorda and Utorda respectively,” the official added.
