The Konkan Railway Police has arrested a 56-year-old Jharkhand man for stealing purses and bags from ladies in running trains. The accused, Nasim alias Salim Khan, would board the train at Karwar railway station with a large shopping bag and target purses of ladies while travelling from Karwar to Margao.
After committing the offense, he would hide the valuables in the shopping bag and alight from the train at the Margao railway station and vice versa.
The accused has been moving on the running train between Karwar and Margao over the last three-four months, targeting ladies and their purses. He was finally arrested on August 7, after a complaint was filed by Sumitha Bhat, who had her purse stolen from her while travelling on the Netravati Express.
The police used artificial intelligence, prompt action and placement of right staff at the right place to solve the case.
The accused was caught committing the crime in a moving train and the stolen gold ornaments were recovered from his rented room at Alto-Dabolim.
